Marble Retreat Christian Counseling

Christian Counseling Newsletter -- Summer 2001

What's Goin' On . . .
I love the song from Porgy and Bess. "Summertime and the livin' is easy. Fish are jumpin' and the cotton is high." Sounds idyllic and that laid back old south style beckons. Unfortunately, "it ain't necessarily so!" This summer is turning out to be very busy in the Christain counseling area. We've been booked up for months prior to each summer session and have long waiting lists. Unfortunately, we haven't been able to serve everyone who has wanted to participate in one of our brief intensives. Fortunately, we have competent ministries to which we can confidently refer folks. We also have help from a few of our Marble Therapy Fellows and a volunteer host couple to keep our full-time staff refreshed.

The cotton's not so high up here either, but Henry says the fish are jumpin' in the Crystal. Meanwhile, we're looking forward to some hiking, baseball, opera, and Aspen Music Festival concerts (all the usual summer traditions.) We're also looking forward to the birth of Cheryl and Daryl's baby in August. We're getting to know and love Karin Evans, our new office manager for our new Carbondale office. So change is in the air as well as cherished traditions. That means we're watching our boundaries so there's time to go "up the lazy river and linger in the shade of a kind old tree."

Hope your summer gives you some time for dreamin' and singin' and restin' in the Lord.

Louis and Melissa Speak at Focus on the Family

Louis & Melissa McBurney
Marble Retreat is the subject at Focus on the Family

As 250 pastors from across the nation, along with their spouses and children, converged at Focus on the Family this June - Louis and Melissa McBurney were there to offer encouragement and practical help. The Pastor's Family Time Getaway was Focus on the Family's first ever pastor's family conference. And what a success! Each clergy family left renewed and encouraged after a fabulous four days filled with activities for the kids, and seminars, great worship and terrific speakers for the adults. The break-out seminar that the McBurney's led each morning on the topic of conflict resolution received rave reviews.

Marble Retreat exhibit

Marble Retreat was invited to have an exhibit table to share our ministry with those attending. We're grateful for the Marble friends who helped staff the table throughout the conference, providing opportunities for one on one interaction with pastors or spouses. Sincere thanks go to the following Colorado Springs friends for volunteering their time: Richard and Jennifer Beckham, Larry and Bonny Dearing, Bill and Patty Dodder, Rob and Deanne Lauer, Dennis and Patty Pickering, and John and Meg Wolter. We're grateful for friends across the country always willing to pitch in and help.
